Featuring Kim Lengling of Let Fear Bounce
Oh, boy. We are live. Welcome to Rise and
Outshine. It is Tuesday, November 26th. I am
joined with my co host Maria Daniels. Maria,
welcome. Hello. I'm excited. It's
dark. I'm still awake. I'm excited for the shows. I'm excited for
Rise and Outshine. I know we missed you last week. We were teasing up
you because we always say Maria does all the things and we've listed all your
businesses, your marketing agency, your coffee shop, your, your truck
rental and then you were speaking at a conference. So we,
everybody missed you last week. We're glad to have you back this week. I'm
happy to be here. We've got a great show
tonight. We have Let Fear Bounce with
Kim Ling Ling Ling Ling. And she has a special
guest. We're going to hear all about it after the song.
We're asking the experts. We're all on a mission to rise
in the rankings and out shine the competition.
Welcome to Rise and Outshine.
I was a little bit off on my cues tonight.
That's all right. I still think you need a yeah at the end.
Well, Kim and Glenda officially welcome to the main
stage and the Let Fear Bounce podcast. We have a special show
coming up for a 10 minute segment and a sampling of
Let Fear Bounce. While we're getting ready, I'm going to introduce Kim
and Glenda. Everybody watching at home, go over to
menti dot com. This is your chance to do audience participation
during a live podcast. So you can use your phone to scan
that QR code and you'll see I've already done it. I can pull
up the scoring criteria. You'll be able to
rank Let Fear Bounce on different criteria. The audio
quality, production quality, the quality of the host and the content.
And then after that you get to fill out a stream of
conscious word cloud. So anything you're feeling or
inspired, anything you, any words that come to mind while you're listening
to the show, type them in there. You can do up to five words,
five inspirations. If you get more, you can also refresh the
page and keep adding to that word cloud. It's a great way to
give real time feedback to the shows. I know that the hosts that
have come on really enjoy that aspect of it. They get to see
where they're ranking over different criterias and then they get to see
how they are influencing and inspiring people. I'm going to
put up a little ticker, but let's introduce Kim and Glenda officially.
Welcome to the show. Thank you. I'm excited to be Here.
Thanks, Jeff. Thanks, Kim. Thanks, Maria.
Well, Kim and I have been talking. We aren't too far away from each other.
We're both in western eastern, western Pennsylvania as far as
the sun shines. And potential
maybe down the road we might see her at our big event
in September. I'm not going to, not going to say anything or make any commitments
for Kim, but I know that we're close enough that if Wise were here, he
would say, make sure, Kim, you book your tickets at the end of September to
come to Pittsburgh. We'd love to have you on our main stage in the podcast
theater, which is right behind me here. Kim, officially now,
after all my witty banter. Officially, welcome to the
show. Thank you. And I just so appreciate all that wittiness
that you're providing to us all this evening. That's
what I do. I just keep. It's almost like a broken record sometimes. I keep
going around and round in circles. Well, tell us a little about, tell us a
little bit about the Let Fear Bounce podcast and what we're going to see coming
up here. Well, Let Fear Bounce came about about four years
ago when the world changed and I decided
to do, you know, a podcast, call it Let Fear Bounce, because fear, it
felt like to me that fear was being shoved in our faces on a daily
basis. You couldn't watch tv, listen to anything without
being told that you should be fearful of breathing, going outside, leaving
your home. So I thought, you know, I'm going to let Fear Bounce. I'm not
letting that stuff land on me. Just not going to happen. And I thought, I
want to talk to other folks, you know, that might feel the same way or
any fears, because we all have fears. So I wanted folks to come on, share
their journey and what fears they may have overcome
or maybe it was even trauma that created fears
that they have worked through, overcome, maybe are even still facing
to get where they're at now and to share how they're not only
surviving, but thriving and just looking forward to the future.
So it's positive, inspirational, and motivational, and I've had some
amazing, amazing guests. And Glenda Benavides, who is my
guest tonight for this portion, this shortened version
of Let Fear Bounce, she's been, she's been a guest of mine in the past,
so I'm super excited to have her on with me tonight. Thanks,
Kim. We're so glad to have you both here. And we talk
about podcasting, and it's a way to get your messaging out over the last
four years. What's Something that you've really taken away from this
experience of creating your own content and sharing your
message with the world. Any, like, key things for people out there
thinking about starting a podcast? Would you recommend it?
You know, would you do it all over again? I. I absolutely
would do it all over again. I have enjoyed and been humbled by.
That's my main thing. I've been humbled by each of my
guests because everyone has a different experience and a different
life path that they're going on and things that they've went through. And, oh, my
goodness, the warriors that I have met, and they are
just knocking it out of the park now, you know, just doing
amazing things and making their slice of the world a better
place. And that's so humbling and that I'm able to provide that small
little platform to let them share their voice
and get their message out there. To me, that it's just humbling. It's
a blessing, and I absolutely would do it all over again.
Absolutely. I'm going to keep on going. I'm not stopping anytime
soon. That's awesome. That's a great answer. We asked that. We
asked different questions, you know, after we hear the introduction and just to kind of
see where you're at in your podcasting journey. And you're all in.
It sounds like this is a great medium for you. It's a. It's a perfect
way to deliver your message. And you're having a great time doing it.
I am. And it is so fun. And like I said, I get to meet
some amazing people, just truly amazing people. And it's.
The word humbling just keeps coming back. And it's just. I am humbled week after
week. That's great. That's great. Let's pull up that
card one more time. Go over to menti.com, type in
that code or use the QR code. The pull up the
scoring for tonight's show, and
I don't have any further questions. I think
it's time if, Maria, if you're ready. I'm ready. I'm
excited to hear it. We're going to turn the show over to
Kim and Glenda. Everybody, this is the Let Fear
Bounce podcast and it's all yours.
Well, hello. Hello, everybody. Welcome to a short version of
Let Fear Bounce. And I want to welcome my special
beautiful guest tonight, Glenda Benavides. She is an American
singer, singer, songwriter, author, and podcast host
from California. She's also a member of the recording academy since
2021. Not only that, folks, she's also an accomplished
author, she has published three books, Courage, find your
fire and ignite action in your life, Soul on
fire and own the goddess within.
Woohoo. I love that. Own the goddess within.
Glenda is also. And this is so exciting, because when I found out about this,
I absolutely. I jumped up and down in my chair. Glenda is on
Antonio Vergara's contemporary BL album, which
is just now nominated for a
Grammy. It doesn't get any better than that, folks. But
Glenda's inclusion in this project highlights the power
of music to connect people from different cultures and create a
dialogue that transcends music.
So exciting. Glenda, thank you for joining me
tonight on this shortened version of Let Fear Bounce. And I'm just so
excited to spotlight you and being
nominated for a Grammy. Oh, my gosh,
you're such a dear spirit. I'm so blessed to know
you and now be on your being interviewed again. So
I just really appreciate you, Kim. Thank you so much. So after you
win. After you win the Grammy, we'll have to have you back
on so you can talk all about that excitement, you know. A couple questions
for you tonight, so let's jump right into it, shall we? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. All
right, my first question. So being nominated for a
Grammy, it's such an incredible achievement, truly.
So how does it feel to be recognized on such a
prestigious platform? It's a lot of
work. And, you know,
it feels amazing because as an artist,
you know, a true artist, you spend most of your
life doing the work you do, the pick up the weeds.
I mean, dig up the weeds. You're doing everything you can to
develop yourself, to transform yourself, to share
with people, to love people, to uplift people. You know, that's just
been some of my mantras through the years. And,
you know, once the. The neat thing about the Grammys is that
it's a nomination or a consideration
or a Grammy from your peers.
So it's, you know, to have somebody recognize
what you've done and to say, good work. You know, just,
good job. That's up here. You know,
I think everybody knows what that feels like. When someone comes up to you at
work and goes, wow, you just did an incredible job, or, thank you for that.
I really appreciated that. Or this is how it made me feel. You know, and
then you sit back, you go, oh, my God, I didn't know I touched
anybody. You know, you're just like, really? Thank you, thank
you, thank you. So it feels amazing. Yeah.
Almost doesn't ring in my head sometimes. That's
what I was going to say. Does it feel real yet?
I. Let's just say I keep forgetting. So I just like
walking along. Yeah. Congratulations. I'm like, what they're
like for the nomination? I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah. Thank you. Thank
you. Thank you. Yeah. So when. When are those awards given? What
is the date for that? February 2nd. February 2nd. Yeah.
Right now we're in round two of
voting. So everyone, this is. This is. So there's
nominations, and I'm one of five. So there's five people. Five
in that category, which is amazing. Five out of, like
20,000. And so what happens is now we're
in the second round of voting, so they will vote to see who
is the winner. And I don't know if we'll know
that right away. I. You know. You know, anybody's
ever watched Grammys, you're just gonna. And the winner is. You
know. Yeah. You know what? Regardless, you have
been nominated for a Grammy. That is correct. Oh, my. You know, not a whole
lot of people can say that. Yeah, that is correct. Thank you so much, people.
Yeah. It's so exciting. So your journey to this moment, which is
big, it must have been filled with some highs and lows. So what were some
of the highs and then what were some of the lows? And where did fear
play a part in any of that? Yeah, fear, for sure.
Well, I think one of the highs was just staying on the
Grammy conversation. There's been many. And there's been many, many
lows. So sticking on the
highs for the Grammys, about
five years ago, I was thinking, oh, my
gosh, you know, I've been in the music business for over 30 years.
I'm like, I want a Grammy. That's what I said
to myself. And I go, oh, I wonder what that means, you know? And so
I got online, I got grammys. You recordingacademy.com
and. And I. I found that there's all these things that you have
to do in order to do that. And I think once I
stepped through that. That door, so to speak, or that
portal, it was like, okay, game on. Let.
Let's see what you're made out of. Let, you know, let's get, you know, more
stuff, you know, deadlines. Let's do this. Let's make it happen. And
then. And there's. And it's like, it's a club, right? So it's
like, there's so many little secrets and so many little things, you know,
and that you've got to, like, educate yourself with and then you've, you know,
you. You can't. It's not for the faint of heart either. I. I noticed that.
So, yeah, it's pretty intense.
So to read through, especially after you voted and
they. They announced the nominations and you go, oh, I didn't
get that for that. That field. Oh, I didn't
get that. And then you go, what?
What? I must have sat there for, like, 10 minutes
just going like this. Yeah. How awesome though
it was. It was. What a moment in time. What a moment in time it
was. Now, you had shared with me, because you've been on my show before, you
had shared that there are many steps to being. It's not just, hey,
you've got a great album out there. We think you're great, and we're going to
nominate you for a Grammy. There is, like you were mentioning just a second ago,
there is a lot of steps you have to go through and a lot of
work. You have to be currently working a
lot. Yeah, correct, yes. Like, you have to be out there in the public, and
it has to be shown. You have to have music on Spotify or wherever.
It's got to be playing somewhere. Yes. So there's a lot in it.
So when you're going through that and you said, it's not for the faint of
heart, and that's why I went, yeah, right there. You have to. You got to
have some courage to really, really push yourself out
there. So did that courage flounder
at any time? Like, did fear kind of like, just peek its little head in
there and say, you ain't good enough? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Yeah, absolutely. Matter of fact, when I.
When I was. When
Antonio reached out to me, I didn't know him. It was. I think
he's in the recording academy. It's such a big
academy. Anyway, he reached out to me, and I was just a yes. You know,
Like, I. He. I said, oh, sure, why not? You know, send me your stuff.
I'll see if I, you know, whatever. And I thought, yeah, I'll work on your
track, you know, on your album, you know? And he's like, great. He's like,
okay, okay. And so I kind of got sick, and then it took me a
while, and I go, when's the deadline? He goes, I got 14 days. I went,
oh, my God. And so I worked, worked, worked, worked my voice back
up because I wasn't feeling very well. And I just. So
basically, I had this track on the album, and it's called
Rebels. Right, The Rebels. Right off of that Album the
Fury. And so I started. I just
listened to it, and I was like, you know, and I
was just kind of singing through it, and I. So I created the melody. He
had already had the lyrics, but I created the melody around his lyrics. And then
I sang it and I just threw it down and I said to toe. And
I said, you know, I'm sorry, if. If, you know,
if you don't like this, please let me know. I will
totally redo it. Like, I will totally redo it for you. Because I was thinking,
I. I'm so fearful of this. This is horrible. This is not a very good
cut. You know, I was, like, really tripping,
like. And I was waiting for him to respond, and he
finally responds, and he goes. He goes, no, Glenda. He
said, when I heard it, I cried. And I was like,
oh, my opinion does not matter.
Well, you're. We always judge ourselves the harshest.
Absolutely. And I was definitely. You said you. He gave you
the lyrics, but you. You came up with the melody. The melody,
yeah. So you. You actually. You wrote
the music for. He just gave you lyrics. And
then 14 days later, he's like, yeah, I need this in 14 days
that I get nervous just thinking about it. I know,
right? Well, so just to be clear, so he had a
track that was already written. So there was music.
Right. He had separate lyrics, but he had no
melody. Okay. So I created the
melody. Well, you know, and sang it for him.
Okay. And said, you can tell that I'm not in the music industry. No, that's.
That's. None of us feel like we are anyway. It's
like. No, it's a mystery. It's
a mystery. It's a constant mystery. We want to keep it
a mystery because that's what make. That's what keeps it magical. Yeah.
Yeah, for sure. Well. And I tell you, the industry is
different from art. Art, artistically, anything.
Okay? So the industry is all about your
brand, what you look like, what you're going to do, how you're going to sell
your music. And there's levels, all kinds of levels.
You've got Beyonce way up here, and you got the rest of us in
other categories. Right. You know, we're
going to wrap up here real quick. We've got a couple minutes or less than.
So share a nugget of hope. Because I ask all of my listeners
or all of my guests to provide the listeners with a nugget of hope at
the end of my show. So if you've got a little nugget of hope, that
you could toss out real quick after a minute. That would be awesome.
Absolutely. And there it is.
Decipher that. No. You know, I would just say if
you have anything that you're inspired by, anything
that you really, truly desire, I would say
step forward and just give it a try. It doesn't have to be. You
don't have to be artistic or musical or whatever. You can
do anything. Just allow yourself to just step forward
and say, yes, let me try it. And you get to
explore yourself and your own feelings and what you.
What you want to share with the world. You never know, you might touch
somebody. That is an awesome nugget. Thank
you so much. So welcome so much. And I hope everybody out there listening that
you caught that nugget that she just tossed out. Give it a try, folks. Don't
stay back in the. In the dark room. Open up that door, peek out, look
at the light, and, you know, let the world know what you're made of. Rock
on. Yeah. Be curious and jump out. That's right.
Yeah. Thank you so much, Glenda, for being my guest today on this short
version of Let Fear Bounce. I love Let Fear bounce. Thank you. And I love
you, Kim. You're amazing. Such an authentic,
beautiful human being. Thank you for your contribution. Thank you.
That's a wrap. That's a wrap, folks. Oh, wow. It
always goes so much faster than you think it's going to go. 10
minutes. You held court the entire
time. The momentum was great. The pacing was great.
The energy levels were great. Maria, what were some of your
takeaways? I was entertained the entire time. And I mean,
you know, it's one of those things that you never know what. Because I've never
heard this show before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I actually prefer
that because then I don't. You know, I have no previous
experience on this show in particular, but I was engaged the
entire time. It was entertaining. And I agree with Glenda.
You're very authentic, you know, which to me is super
important, that authenticity really shines through in your show. And Glenda,
you were an amazing guest and you did drop the nuggets at the end. That
was great. Thank you.
Last chance, everybody. Get your votes in at home. There
are a lot of votes coming in. If you go to mentee.com, type in
that code or scan that code on your cell phone, scan the
QR code. This is the most nerve wracking part
where the next slide is your scores and we tell
people we're not looking for tens on this we're not looking for perfect
scores. We're looking to find with positivity and
love, where are areas of the podcast where we can improve on
if everybody's attendant. Nobody learns anything. So the goal is.
And the nice thing about the scoring is you're going to see a graph that
shows you a plot of where all the scores came in. So you may see
engaging hosts, and you might see that those were scattered around eight, nines and tens.
So I think we're going to lock it up here.
And Kim, are you ready to see the
scores? Yeah, I think
you'll be very pleased. Here we go. That's just so fun and
exciting coming in here. We have
audio quality, upper eights, 8.8, engaging
hosts. That's pretty close to 10. So that's what Marie and I were talking about.
You were holding and you were keeping the show moving forward.
The quality of the content was great. We were both entertained the
entire time, and you told us a little bit about what it's going to be
about. And sometimes interview podcasts, it's not always
exactly the content that matches expectations. And that was one that
you probably see with that type of show. When you're doing an interview show,
every interview is different. Everybody's story is a little different, so that one's a little
bit harder to score higher. And for a live stream, the production
quality was great, too, coming in overall at
9.1. And that's. That's one of the best scores we've had on the
show since we started. And so after
seeing this feedback and you can kind of see where everybody's
votes plotted in there, and most of them scored very high. I don't think
you had anything less than a six, maybe one or two sixes. But everything
else out of. Looks like 13 people were
voting tonight. 13 votes came in, and
9.1 overall. How do you feel after seeing that, Kim? I think it's
awesome. And I think it's also helpful because I had a great
guest. Yeah, absolutely.
9.1, I think, is awesome. The content matches
expectation that I guess I would need, like, more verbal
feedback on how to improve on
that. Yeah, well, that's. Again, I think that's just
the type of show that you're doing where it's an interview show. You're
never going to fully know what you're going to get from it with an
interview, because every interview is different. Everybody's story is a little bit different. So that
one's probably a little bit. That's a very good score, though. Still, yeah.
Okay. Yeah, my show. And Glenda
can attest to this because she's been on it before. And I tell everybody,
I will toss a question out to you. And then we roll. We just go
wherever it takes us. Absolutely. Yeah. And also, and
you're also adjusting your format for a 10 minute format
just to give a sample. So some shows take five to 10 minutes
to get ramped up and get rolling. So, you know, you keep all
that 10 minutes fast. That is very fast. It doesn't go
very fast. Maybe in the future we might go to like 15 minutes.
I think 10 minutes is great though, because it really keeps you. It's like, you
know, step up your game there. Yeah. And the, and the goal is to give
a sample because some of these criteria you can get in 10 minutes
or so. So if you're ready, let's go
over to the word cloud. Let's see what came in
here. 56 responses popped in here.
Wow. Everything from taking a chance,
inspirational, love the enthusiasm, global
badass goddess. I think that look what they're down there. It says
Glenda rocks. Glenda rocks. And the bigger the words,
that's the more times they were used too. So engaging,
authentic, fun, inspiring, energetic, grateful,
courage. Those were words people use more than. More
than once or more than one person used those words. And there's in their
Grammy, Grammy high energy. I like how they have Grammy in there
too. That's awesome. That's awesome. We judge ourselves.
That was part of the. Towards the end, I think the nuggets at the end,
fear, get out of here. I like that one. That's awesome.
Keep it magical and powerful and moving. And I'm going to give this
back to you, Kim, at the end of the end of the
recording tonight. So you're going to have the scoring sheet, you're going to have this
feedback. And this is what people just took away. And we want it to be
like a stream of conscious scorecard. And if you go back through
your episode and look at this word cloud while you're
listening, that's what people were feeling and thinking. And what
kind of takeaways do you have, seeing all this come together at the end
here? Humbled.
Always. Always. Seriously, I mean, you know,
for whoever was listening, you know, we,
between Glenda and I, we touched people and they came up with these words because
they felt something and that's what it's all about. Yeah,
that's great, Maria. I love that and I love how big
authentic is because that was honestly one of the words that came to my mind
as well. So obviously that one's so big because
multiple people put that same exact thing. I love it. Yeah.
This has been so much fun. So much fun. Thank you so much,
you guys, for doing this. This is, like, really creative. This is
really inspiring for us too, you know, and. And
to know that we have 56 people that we connected to, you know, that we
touched. And that's. That's what it's all
about, right? That's really it. Yeah. Oh,
and we love to hear that feedback, too, because we're starting the show as
a way to get to the end of the year
to have a festival where we're celebrating podcasters. So
you're enjoying us helping podcasters and you
enjoy the celebration of the fans listening and leaving scores. That
makes it worth it for us, and we love to hear that. And let's go
around one last time before we say goodbye tonight and play
that lovely theme song. Let's plug
and promote and make sure everybody can connect with you. Kim, we'll
start with you tonight. If folks want to get in touch or see what
